First of all let me tell you that it's a pleasure to me being
talking with you and I thank you a lot for accepting my invitation to
knowing you a little more.
On your blog I've seen that you work in Sweeden, but I don't know why I have the idea that you've borned in another country, am I right?

Nací en Eskilstuna,
un pueblo de 100.000 habitantes, localizado más o menos a 1 hora en
tren de Estocolmo, Suecia. Actualmente vivo en el campo, no muy lejos
de mi ciudad natal y tengo mi estudio en Eskilstuna. Me gusta la ciudad
porque no es muy pequeña, pero tampoco es muy grande. Y está lo
suficientemente cerca de Estocolmo así que puedo ir fácilmente cuando
quiero.

I was born in Eskilstuna,
a town of 100.000 people, located about 1 hour by train from Stockholm,
Sweden. I now live in the countryside not so far from my birth city and
I have my studio in Eskilstuna. I like the city because it is not too
small and not too big. And it is close enough to Stockholm so I can
easily go there when I want to.

¿Cómo fue que te iniciaste en el dibujo para luego convertirte en una ilustradora profesional?

How did you get started in the drawing and then become a professional illustrator?

Tuve
mucha suerte al haber nacido en una familia muy creativa, donde siempre
hubo alguien dibujando, cosiendo o construyendo algo. Mis hermanos
mayores fueron (y todavía son), fantásticos dibujantes y yo quise ser
como ellos.
Años después trabajaba en una oficina, pero cuando conocí a mi pareja, Michael, quien es también artista, decidí que yo también intentaría ganarme la vida como ilustradora. Eso fue hace 20 años y hoy en día felizmente conservo ambos, la profesión y el novio :-)

I
was lucky enough to be born into a very creative family, where there
was always someone drawing, sewing or building something. My older
brothers were (and still are) fantastic at drawing and I wanted to be
just like them.
Years after I
was working in an office, but when I met my partner, Michael, who is
also an artist, I decided that I also would try to make a living as an
illustrator. That was 20 years ago and I have happily kept both the
profession and the partner :-)

¡En todas partes! Uno nunca sabe cuándo o dónde una idea o inspiración vendrá. Puede venir simplemente de la nada o de algo con que me tope. Pero algunas veces tengo que buscarla, a lo mejor en viejos libros, en internet o en la naturaleza.

Everywhere!
You never know when or where an idea or inspiration will come. It can
be just out of the blue or something I stumble over. But sometimes I
have to go looking for it, perhaps in old books, on the internet or in
nature.

¿Cómo fue que creaste esos pequeños gnomos, de los cuales estoy enamorada?

How was that those little trolls, of which I am in love, were created?

En realidad esos pequeños gnomos son parte del folklore tradicional sueco y se llaman "tomte". Son míticas criaturas escandinavas asociadas a la Navidad, y en nuestra tradición se cree que viven en bosques o granjas de la Escandinavia rural.
Como son súper populares en tarjetas de Navidad y todo lo relacionado con la temporada navideña en Escandinavia, yo dibujo muchos de ellos y me encanta, es muy divertido pasar tiempo con estas fascinantes criaturas.
Por mi parte sólo en mi imaginación, pero aún se oyen rumores de gente que dice haber visto un "tomte" en los profundos bosques deshabitados de Escandinavia del Norte...

Those
little trolls actually are part of traditional Swedish folklore and are
called “tomte”. They are mythical Scandinavian creatures associated
with the Christmas season, and in our folklore they are imagined to
inhabit woods or farms in rural Scandinavia.
Since they are super
popular on Christmas Cards and everything connected to the Christmas
Season in Scandinavia I paint a lot of them – and I love it, it is great
fun to spend time with these fascinating creatures. In imagination for
my part, but you can still hear rumors about people who claim to
actually have caught a glimpse of a real alive tomte out in the deep
uninhabited forests of Northen Scandinavia...

there a moment of the day, a place or any situation that you prefer
for going inside of your fantastic world and begin to draw?

Intento mantener mi día de trabajo dentro de un horario estricto, generalmente trabajo cuando mi hijo está en la escuela, y también cuando se ha ido a la cama.
Y suelo escuchar música si estoy bosquejando algo nuevo, pero tampoco me importa si el estudio está en silencio. Me gusta todo tipo de música, aunque me atrae especialmente la música de los 70's y 80's; años de mi adolescencia.
Cuando hago la fácil tarea de colorear, me gusta escuchar lecturas interesantes o debates en internet, por ejemplo 'Tedx talks'.

I
try to keep my working day to rather strict hours, so usually I work
when my son is in school, and also when he has gone to bed.
I often listen music if I am sketching something new, but it doesn´t matter if it is quiet in the studio either. I like all sorts of music, but I find myself especially drawn to music from the 70´s and 80´s; the years I was growing up.
When I do the easier task of coloring I like to listen to interesting lectures or talks on the internet, for example 'Tedx talks'.

Which ones are your favorite illustrating techniques?

Empiezo mis dibujos generalmente a mano alzada, a menudo con acuarelas, y utilizo el ordenador para darles el toque final.
Las imágenes estacionales y las flores son dos de mis temas favoritos.
Desde 1997 he estado creando ilustraciones y colecciones de ellas para trarjetas de felicitación, manteles, telas, papel de regalo, bolsas de papel, etc. También he hecho ilustraciones para alrededor de 200 libros educativos y libros infantiles. Diseño patrones para punto de cruz y patrones de repetición. Estos productos se venden en casi toda Escandinavia.

My images usually starts off hand painted, often in watercolor and ends up
in the computer for the final touch.
Seasonal images and flowers are two
of my favorite themes.
Since 1997 I have been creating images and collections of images for
greeting cards, tabletop, textiles, wrapping paper, paper bags etc. I
have also illustrated over 200 educational books and Childrens books. I
design cross stitch embroidery and repeat patterns. These products are
sold all over Scandinavia.

Bueno, si te gusta dibujar - ¡adelante! Pero empieza poco a poco. Conserva tu trabajo al comienzo.
Ve a tiendas, mira en revistas, en telas, camisetas, juegos y otros productos y trata de imaginar dónde puede encajar tu estilo.
Hazte un portfolio apropiado y envialo a compradores potenciales de arte.
Únete a otros ilustradores en comunidades en internet, donde puedas aprender más de cómo funciona el negocio de la ilustración.
Infórmate y aprende sobre copyright y cómo ser remunerado por tu trabajo.
¡Y no te olvides de divertirte en el camino!

Well,
if you love to draw – go for it! But start gradually. Keep your day job
in the beginning. Go to stores, look in magazines, at textiles, t-
shirts,
games and other products and try to imagine where your style could fit
in. Make a relevant portfolio that you can send to potential art-buyers.
Join communities on the internet with other illustrators where you can
learn more about how the illustration business works. Learn about
copyright and how to get paid for your work. And don´t forget to have
fun on the way!
